iPhone 4S to Launch in January in China. Maybe.

Whilst the rest of the world has and is now enjoying the new iPhone 4S from Apple, poor China are still waiting for the handset to officially become available to buy. Bringing with it new features such as an 8 megapixel camera, iOS 5, Siri Voice Recognition and so on, China iPhone fans are having to twiddle their thumbs, simply because it is rather difficult for Apple’s best iPhone yet to obtain the relevant approvals from the authorities.

Realistically speaking, the iPhone 4S would no longer be able to make it to China before the calendar year greets 2012, even if the vaunted smartphone were to pick up approval today. Chances are, Apple and China Unicom will still need to spend some time and money to run pre-launch promotions, although I am not quite sure whether that is really necessary at all since it is the iPhone 4S that we are talking about here, after all.

Anyway, Tencent Tech is reporting that China Unicom told them the phone would officially hit the Chinese market sometime in January. Of course, other places are reporting the phone could see store shelves as early as before Christmas. That seems pretty unlikely to us, for sure, if iPhone 4S doesn't land China before Christmas, then no later than Jan 23, the Chinese Spring Festival. Or it maybe a great loss for Apple, China Unicom and the iPhone 4S fans.

iPad 2 Video Converter is perfectly compatible with iPad 2, iPad, iPhone 4S, iPhone 4 and iPod.

Apple iPhone 4S Could Be Next in Line of Apple Device Issues

Apple’s mobile devices have consistently proven worldwide blockbusters. Whether the succeeding iterations of the iPhone, with increasingly advanced hardware and software, or the iPad dominating the tablet space, every new release seems to spark a customer rush for the nearest electronics store. However, despite their elegant design and top-notch software engineering, these Apple products sometimes run into issues. With the iPhone 4, some users complained of dropped calls whenever their bare skin touched the device’s exterior antenna rim; Apple eventually compensated with a giveaway of free rubber bumpers that covered that rim. With the iMac, reported issues with yellowed or flickering screens also drove Apple to a public response. Nor do these issues stop at hardware. Apple famously wrestled with the rollout of its MobileMe service, which was meant to sync users’ online data. At one point, Apple co-founder and CEO Steve Jobs ushered the MobileMe team into the company’s auditorium for a dressing-down, climaxing with him dismissing the head of the team. Although Jobs is deceased, and former COO Tim Cook now holds the company’s reins, Apple will almost certainly continue its stringency with regard to its product lines. It remains to be seen, though, how it will respond to user reports that the iPhone 4S, the latest device in the iPhone line, is experiencing some battery issues.

Apple iPhone 4S Battery Issues

According to online reports and several irate commenters on Apple’s discussion threads, a subset of iPhone 4S units are experiencing significant battery drain in a relatively short period of time: 15 to 20 percent an hour, in some cases.

Antennagate

In 2010, the blockbuster release of the iPhone 4 was somewhat marred by reports of dropped calls whenever users gripped the device in a certain way with their bare hands.

Yellow iMac Screens

In late 2009, an unknown number of iMac buyers reported either a flickering screen, or one with a disconcerting yellow tint.

When Apple launched MobileMe in 2008, users reported issues with the online service, including problems syncing devices and some lost data.

Jailbreak hack enables Siri on iPhone 4, 4th-gen iPod touch

Hackers have succeeded in bringing a limited port of Apple's new Siri voice assistant feature onto "jailbroken" versions of the iPhone 4 and the fourth-generation iPod touch, though they have noted that the workaround is not ready for a public release.

Steve Troughton-Smith and Grant Paul  publicized the hack via Twitter late Saturday. The tweak requires that devices first undergo a jailbreak, the procedure for hacking an iPhone to run unauthorized code and applications.

The two hackers provided screenshots and a video (below) of their success, while reporting that the service was "literally just as fast" on the iPhone 4 as the iPhone 4S. According to Paul, UI on the iPod touch felt "slightly slower," though the actual Siri was "pretty much identical."

Troughton-Smith said that he had boiled the entire hack down to "one line of code" plus "a *ton* of filesystem changes." He also promised that all details of the workaround would be revealed once he confirmed "it works, doesn't break other things and is safe," probably after the release of an iPhone 4S jailbreak. When asked whether a release date had been set, he said no, adding that doing so would "anger the hive."

Apple unveiled Siri earlier in October, announcing the feature as an exclusive to the iPhone 4S. In April 2010, it was reported that the Cupertino, Calif., company had acquired the developer of the original Siri app, possibly for as much as $200 million.

Siri hack

Given that initial reviews of the iPhone 4S have pointed to Siri as a main draw and "standout feature" of the device, Apple could move quickly to block the workaround from hackers. This could potentially lead to a cat-and-mouse game similar to its continued efforts to prevent jailbreaking and unlocking.

best iPad Video Converter for Mac, wonderful entertainment for playing videos on iPad.

Apple's first television ad for the iPhone 4S focused exclusively on Siri serves as further evidence that the company plans to, at least at first, rely on the service to distinguish the device from its predecessor. Some have criticized Apple for taking 16 months to release an iPhone with nearly the same design as the fourth-generation iPhone.

Though Siri is currently only officially available on the iPhone 4S, a recent report from The New York Times suggested that Apple may center the interface of a rumored high-definition connected television set around the voice assistant feature.

Apple co-founder Steve Jobs told biographer Walter Isaacson during an interview that he had solved the problem of a simple and elegant interface for an Apple-developed HDTV.

"It will have the simplest user interface you could imagine," Jobs was quoted as saying. "I finally cracked it."

iPhone 4S vs. Android Phones: What's Better for You?

You know your smartphone is doing well when 4 million people buy it in the first weekend and it temporarily sells out on all three of your carrier partners.

The overwhelming demand for the iPhone 4S is understandable, given the much-talked-about Siri voice-controlled assistant, as well as the device's faster dual-core processor and fantastic 8-megapixel camera. But today's top Android phones—such as the Samsung Galaxy S II>—offer plenty of features you won't find on Apple's blockbuster sequel. How do you know which side to choose?

Interface
I would never call the row-of-icons interface on the iPhone 4S fresh, but its ease of use means a lot, especially to first-time smartphone owners. And iOS 5 catches up to Android with its Notifications area, which is cleanly designed and dynamic (thanks to the addition of weather and stock info).

However, some Android phones let you do more from the notification area. On the Samsung Galaxy S II, for example, you can toggle the wireless radios on and off. And on HTC Sense phones, you can switch between apps from this menu as well as tweak several settings. The other edge Android has in the interface department is widgets, which let you access all sorts of info at a glance. Indeed, Google's OS is so customizable that the user experience can vary drastically from one phone to the next.

Winner: iPhone 4S. While Android is more flexible, it can also be more confusing. Simplicity wins this round.

iPad to Mac Transfer is specially designed for Mac users to backup iPad Content

Multitasking
Just as with the iPhone 4, it's easy to switch between apps on the iPhone 4S. You just double-press the home button and swipe to either side. To shut down apps, you press and hold the screen and then tap the X next to an app's icon. Because most apps are suspended when they're not open, you don't really need to worry about them zapping battery life.

Today on Android, you must long-press the home button, but you might only see a subset of all of your running apps—and you can't close programs from this view. Android Ice Cream Sandwich will offer a better user experience, with a Recent Apps button that displays live thumbnails of your running apps. And you'll be able to dismiss apps with a swipe.

Winner: iPhone 4S. But it looks like Android 4.0 will put Google's phones ahead.

iPad to Computer Transfer helps you easily transfer iPad to Computer

Screen Size and Quality
One of the chief complaints people have about the screen in the iPhone 4S is that it's the same size as the original iPhone's: 3.5 inches. But what many don't realize is that this LCD's resolution is higher than the vast majority of Android phones. The display is not only crisper but brighter than most of the Android competition.

On the other hand, bigger screens are just easier on the eyes, and they don't force you to zoom in as much to read text. And although they're not as bright, the Super AMOLED displays on phones such as the Galaxy S II and the Droid RAZR offer better contrast and more vibrant colors, making them great for watching movies. The upcoming Samsung Galaxy Nexus will up the ante on with the first HD display (1280 x 720 pixels).

Winner: Draw. The iPhone 4S has the superior display right now in terms of detail and brightness, but some shoppers just prefer a larger screen.

Keyboard/Typing
Amazingly, Apple's multitouch keyboard remains second to none, despite the fact that in most cases you're typing on a smaller display. Both in portrait mode and landscape mode, I can type quickly and accurately. I'll certainly make more errors than when using a physical keyboard, but overall the iPhone 4S keyboard just works.

With Android phones, keyboards vary quite a bit from one phone maker to the next. Generally speaking, I've found HTC's keyboards to be the best, with Android's stock keyboard on the Samsung Galaxy S 4G being a close second. But Android has a few advantages. One is that you can download third-party keyboards, such as Swype, from the Android Market. Second, only Android phones come with physical keyboards, though they seem to be a dying breed.

Winner: Draw. The iPhone 4S keyboard is great for its size, but some prefer a bigger screen and more customization options.

Web and Data Speeds
The iPhone 4S may have a fancy new dual-antenna system and the ability to reach 14.4 Mbps (theoretically) on AT&T, but it gets blown away by 4G Android phones. For example, the AT&T iPhone 4S delivered speeds as high as 5.3 Mbps but averaged 2.2 Mbps. Both the T-Mobile Galaxy SII (12.6 Mbps) and the Motorola Droid Bionic (11.6 Mbps) are faster.

In terms of loading web pages, we’ve seen a huge real-world difference as well. The iPhone 4S takes about 10 seconds to load many mobile sites (regardless of the network) versus about half that for true 4G phones. Everything on an iPhone 4S that involves data will require more patience than on an 4G Android phone, whether it’s streaming YouTube videos or updating your Facebook news feed. The only caveat is that 4G radios (especially LTE) can drain your battery in a hurry.

Winner: Android. 4G speeds make a big difference in everyday use.

Social Networking
Apple is making a big deal about Twitter integration with iOS 5, and it’s certainly welcome. You can share photos, websites, and more with just a couple of taps. However, Android goes deeper by including Facebook, as well as pretty much any other service that uses Android’s APIs.

For example, you don’t have to use Twitter on Android; you can use Tweetdeck instead. Android also works with Evernote, Flickr, GroupMe,LinkedIn—you name it. We just wish the Sharing option wasn’t two clicks away from the browser page.

Winner: Android. The iPhone 4S makes it easy to share stuff on Twitter, but you need to use dedicated apps for everything else.

Camera
Apple has raised the bar for photo quality—both in terms of speed and low-light performance—with the iPhone 4S, thanks to new optics and an improved backside illuminated sensor. It also captures sharp and smooth 1080p video. Android phones such as the Galaxy S II are only a step behind in terms of speed, though, and they take equally good photos outdoors.

While the iPhone 4S has an HDR feature, there’s not much else you can do when taking photos. An advanced Android phone such as the Amaze 4G has a panorama mode, HDR, burst shot mode, and more. And although the iPhone 4S has some editing features, the best Android phones go further, letting you add all sorts of effects without using a separate app.

Winner: Draw. The iPhone 4S has the best camera we’ve used yet, but Android phones give you more control of your images—before and after the shot.

AVI to DVD Mac is the most reliable DVD burner software for you to create DVD Slideshows, burn ISO images, convert videos and movies to DVD.

Apps
After trailing iOS for years, Android is finally catching up to Apple in terms of the sheer number of apps available in their respective stores. Apple has about 360,000 iPhone apps, compared to approximately 320,000 for Android (according to research firm Research2Guidance). You’ll also find that both app stores stock a lot of the same stuff, from Angry Birds and Words with Friends to Kindle and Pandora.

But if you dig deeper, you’ll find that the iPhone 4S has a better selection of high-quality games with more impessive graphics, such as Infinity Blade and Shadowgun. You’ll also find that apps either come to the iPhone first (such as Netflix) or exclusively (such as Instagram) and just look more polished (Facebook).

Winner: iPhone 4S. The iPhone has always been known for its apps, and at least for now it still has a quality and slight quantity edge.

Secret Weapons
Only the iPhone 4S has Siri, a fantastic voice-controlled assistant that can help you with everything from scheduling appointments to sending messages. Other advantages unique to the iPhone 4S include iTunes; Google only offers a subset of Apple's content. And then there’s iCloud, which does a better job than Google of keeping all of your content in sync across multiple devices. Last but not least is the iPhone’s vast number of available accessories. Having a single standard connector makes things a lot easier on makers of add-ons.

Android has plenty of unique strengths as well. In addition to offering 4G speeds, only Android has free GPS navigation built in. And only Android phones support NFC, which enables mobile payments and will gain even more power with Ice Cream Sandwich. With the beam feature you’ll be able to share all sorts of info with a tap.

Winner: iPhone 4S. Siri + more content + more accessories give Apple the win in this round.

Bottom Line
Android phones won five points, but the iPhone 4S took home seven -- making this head to head appear to be a decisive victory for the iPhone 4S. But it really comes down to what you value most in a smartphone. If it’s ease of use and better apps you’re after—as well as smooth performance and a great camera—the iPhone 4S can’t be beat. Siri takes smartphones to the next level by serving your needs with real intelligence. As long as you can live with 3G speeds, you can’t go wrong with the iPhone 4S.

On the other hand, the fact that Android phones offer 4G should not be overlooked. It speeds up practically everything you do. Android also integrates with multiple social networks—instead of just Twitter—and you have a wider range of design choices. If you like the idea of customizing your interface to your heart’s content and want the option of a bigger screen, Android is the way to go.

iPhone 4S big hit in China's grey market

Despite not officially being for sale in China, Apple's iPhone 4S was on sale on Beijing and Hong Kong's  grey market at the weekend, attracting hundreds of fans paying up to six times official prices to get their hands on the latest model.

The smartphone, released in seven countries on Friday, not including China but dealers had imported them, mainly from Australia, Canada and Japan, for resale to local customers. According to experts iPhone 4S it will come out in China towards the end of the year.

The phones are retailing for between HK$10,000 and HK$12,000 ($1,300-$1,500) on the grey market. Depending on their memory capacity they are priced between $199 and $399 in the United States with a two-year contract.

"Today we have got two from Canada, they're 11,000 yuan ($1,720) each. If you're interested, you need to come straight away," a saleswoman said at a mobile phone shop at Hailong market.

"I have sold about 100 iPhone 4S since yesterday," dealer Ma Hui of Chu Lok Telecom in the bustling shopping district of Mongkok said Sunday.

"Several customers bought 10 of them to resell to others," he told AFP, as he brought the new phones into his shop before opening for business.

But Ma said the demand for the 4S was less than the frenzy that accompanied the launch of the iPhone 4.

Steve Jobs' final weeks

Apple co-founder Steve Jobs died on Wednesday at the age of 56 after a long battle with a rare form of pancreatic cancer. RIP Steve everyone will miss you especially the apple fans!!

Outpourings of sympathy swept across the globe as state leaders, business rivals and fans paid respect to the man who touched the daily lives of countless millions through the Macintosh computer, iPod, iPhone and iPad.

"A visionary, a creative genuis, will be missed by all especially Apple Inc. Will be remembered for the i-technology, imac, ipod, itunes, iphone and ipad others could only follow R.I.P."

Steve Jobs spent his final weeks as he had spent most of his life - in tight control of his choices, the New York Times reported.

For Steve, it was all about living life on his own terms and not wasting a moment with things he didn't think were important. He was aware that his time on earth was limited. He wanted control of what he did with the choices that were left."

In his final months, Jobs's home - a large and comfortable but relatively modest brick house in a residential neighborhood - was surrounded by security guards. His driveway's gate was flanked by two black SUVs.

He invited a close friend, the physician Dean Ornish to join him for sushi at one of his favorite restaurants Jin Sho. He said goodbye to longtime colleagues including the venture capitalist John Doerr, the Apple board member Bill Campbell and the Disney Chief Executive Robert A.lger. He offered Apple's executives advice on unveiling the iPhone 4S, which occured Tuesday. He spoke to his viographer, Walter Isaacson. He started a new drug regime, and told some friends that there was reason for hope.

In his final days, he became so weak that it was hard for him to walk up the stairs of his own home anymore, his wife Laurene said.

Apple Has A Bad Day With Samsung And iPad 3

Apple faces a turnover of the Samsung injunction and iPad 3 may be delayed with screen supply problems

It was a black Wednesday for Apple. Samsung managed to overturn the European Union ban on sales of its flagship tablet, an action prosecuted by Apple, and the iPad 3 launch was “put back” because of technical problems.

Added to the news that if Google’s bid for Motorola Mobile goes through, Apple will lose some of its patents litigation power because of its reliance on Motorola technologies, it is probably not a good time to be in the Cupertino company’s boardroom.

Guilty Till Proven Innocent

The Samsung ban was granted in a Dusseldorf court last week under laws which apply automatically across the European Union countries. Samsung complained that it had not been invited and several bloggers have called it a case of the court assuming Samsung was “guilty until proven innocent”.

Apple won the injunction to ban the sale of the Galaxy Tab 10.1 model based on a European principle of Community Design. The law was passed by the European courts in 2002 and, under the ruling, allows photos or sketches to be used to prove prior design rights.

DVD to iPad 2 is specially designed for Apple users.

DVD to iPad 2 Mac is a wonderful gift for Mac and iPad users)

In court, Apple showed a diagram of the iPad that was drawn up in 2004 which the courts accepted as prior art. In a separate hearing in the Netherlands, a Dutch court threw Apple’s case out for at least two months when Samsung showed images and actual models that had similar designs to Apple’s iPad.

One compulsive piece of evidence was a video made by publishing group Knight Ridder in 1994, ten years before Apple’s drawing, that showed a mock-up of a concept machine: a rectangular, black tablet that not only resembles the iPad but also was planned to display multimedia elements.

The reprieve for Samsung, which does not apply in Germany, may be short-lived in the rest of Europe as the court has said the ban will only be removed for a minimum of ten days – which is when the litigants meet head-on in the German courts on August 25.

Samsung issued a statement: “Samsung welcomes the Dusseldorf District Court’s decision to suspend the pan-European preliminary injunction against the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1. Samsung is fully committed to providing our innovative mobile devices to the market without disruption, and ensuring that consumers have a wider selection of innovative products to choose from.

“We look forward to the opportunity to reassert our intellectual property rights at the hearing scheduled on August 25,” the company said.

Display Of Concern

On the iPad 3 front, if Apple had any intention of launching a slightly smaller iPad in autumn, it now looks certain that it will not launch a tablet before 2012.

It appears that the new 9.7-inch higher resolution screens that have a 2048×1536 pixels display are causing concern. Apple hoped to source them from Sharp, Samsung and LG but Sharp is the only company to have successfully met the challenge.

Supply is a problem, and the current lawsuits with Samsung may mean the South Korean company will not be so keen to sell to Apple. This is just a temporary problem, more challenging is the likely desire of Apple to slim down the screens to keep the trim looks of the iPad.

The Sharp displays need a stronger and larger backlight than previous iPad screens. Given the leadership iPad has in the tablet market, it seems that Apple is content to wait.

The need for further research at Sharp is firing up rumours of a $1 billion investment coming from Apple.

iPhone 4 remains top-selling US smartphone

Despite iPhone 5 approaching, Apple iPhone 4 is still NO 1 hot sale smartphone.

Analyst T. Michael Walkley with Canaccord Genuity revealed in a note to investors on Tuesday that checks with U.S. carriers indicate that sales of the iPhone 4 remain on top ahead of the iPhone 5 debut, despite the fact that the iPhone 4 is more than a year old.

"Our checks indicated strong sales of the iPhone 4, as it remained the top selling smartphone at AT&T and Verizon despite increasing consumer expectations for the iPhone 5 launch," he wrote.

"During the holiday season, we anticipate strong sales of the iPhone 5, as we anticipate a strong global launch with increased distribution to new carriers including Sprint in the U.S. market."

Walkley's research found that the iPhone 4 remained the top-selling handset at both AT&T and Verizon in August. In addition, the $50 entry-level $50 iPhone 3GS was the second strongest selling handset at AT&T. Verizon does not offer the iPhone 3GS.

The iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS beat out the $200 Samsung Infuse 4G, which was the third-best selling handset at AT&T. And at Verizon, the Samsung Charge 4G came in second, while the HTC Thunderbolt 4G was third.

"While Motorola Mobility and RIM enjoyed stronger sell-through trends in 2010, our (first half of calendar 2011) checks indicate a clear trend toward increasing share for Apple, HTC and Samsung," Walkley wrote.

In addition to strong sales of the iPhone 4, he also found that the 3G-capable iPad 2 is the top-selling tablet at both AT&T and Verizon, which are the only two carriers that offer the iPad in the U.S.

"Based on solid demand trends for iPhone/iPad, poor sell-through trends for competing tablet offerings, and the ramping iOS ecosystem driving longer-term replacement sales, we believe Apple will maintain dominant value share of both the tablet and smartphone markets to drive healthy long-term earnings growth," Walkley said.

IFA 2011: Top 9 Things We'd Love to See But Won't

While Berlin's annual consumer electronics fair has previously been a showcase of home appliances from TVs to fridges, it has become a battleground for manufacturers of wireless gadgets, according to Bloomberg News.

At IFA 2011 this week, Sony Corp., LG Electronics Inc. and Samsung Electronics Co., among other device-makers, will unveil their new tablets/and or smartphones.

We've listed some things that we'd love to see at the tech show in Berlin, but wont:

9. Samsung Engineers Rubbing Elbows with Apple's.

Although Samsung has been producing chips for Apple's mobile devices, the two have been at a war that gets uglier each day. The maker of the iPhone, iPad and iMac has sued Samsung for patent infringement in every country mapped by Google. What's worse, Apple is asking the local courts to stop the sale of Galaxy S 2 and Galaxy S Tab on grounds that they're "slavishly" imitating Apple. What's even worse is that Samsung is running out of brilliant ideas, now saying that Stanley Kubrick's 1968 sci-fi film "2001: A Space Odyssey" invented the tablet.

8. Glasses-Free 3-D Devices That Actually Work.

Toshiba has already unveiled the world's first glasses-free 3D laptop, which uses a lenticular screen and integrated webcam. And LG Electronics has already released the LG Optimus 3D, which claims to offer "the world's first 3D experience on a smartphone." But the technology is still in its infancy. Like the LCD screens of laptops more than 10 years ago, these devices would likely show blurred pictures when viewed at the wrong angle or when exposed to sunlight. What could be more interesting is Sony's HMZ personal 3-D viewer, a futuristic little helmet that lets you watch 3-D movies. But would anybody actual sit alone with this $800 visor with an OLED screen? Nintendo released bulky Virtual Boy headgears for gaming 20 years ago, and the device flopped.

3D Movie Maker allows you to create Hollywood fabulous 3D Effects using any 2D movies like SD/HD Video or DVD movies or online videos, even the DRM-protected 2D videos.

Blu-ray 3D Ripper, the first software in the world which can independently manage the Blu-ray 3D to 3D video conversion.

7. Apple's Steve Jobs and His Turtleneck Shirt.

The man credited for propelling a company near bankruptcy to the world's most valuable tech company; at one point, richer than the U.S. government; and with zero long-term debt. Steve Jobs loves the stage and enjoys touting Apple's new devices. Jobs, the man who created the 21st century, would certainly steal the limelight from any devices exhibited at IFA 2011. Certainly, he resigned from Apple CEO because of poor health, it is reasonable he didn't show on the IFA.

6. The iPad Killer.

Even the world's biggest seller of desktops and laptops (Hewlett-Packard) gave up against the iPad. The tablet version of the BlackBerry (the PlayBook), Motorola's XOOM, and Samsung's Galaxy Tab, although cheaper than the iPad, have also failed to gain any ground. But Sony is releasing devices (one with a folded design, and another that looks like the Nintendo DS), which depart from the usual square, flat slab-style of the present tablets. Not only that, the devices are pre-loaded with games and have access to the PlayStation network. Talking about games, Nintendo is already unveiling the WiiU, its next generation gaming console that also works like an iPad. Amazon Inc., the world's largest online retailer, is also gearing up to sell its own tablet. But Apple's iPad has 75 percent of the tablet market. And few are buying the others because Jobs has created functional fashion statements (not the turtleneck shirts, but the sleek, easy-to-use products iPad, iPod and iPhone).

When it comes to iPad killer, it is so funny that some “Experts” predict Amazon will be the iPad killer: while Amazon entering the tablet market may give Apple a legitimate competitor in the space. LOL, Amazon has good sense of humor.

5. People Flocking Intel's Ultrabooks.

Apple has been providing us with brilliantly designed devices, but the problem with a single manufacturer is pricing power. Apple's devices are not cheap (the $3,000 MacBook Pro for example), and in the absence of competition, it can charge more for the iPad 3. One qualified challenger is the Ultrabook, a new class of mobile computer being promoted by Intel Corp. The Ultrabook will have the performance of today's laptops with tablet-like features. While the Intel device is expected to be more powerful than the iPad -- it is unlikely to take market share away from Apple. Although Intel has been bribing developers for more apps for the Ultrabook, Apple is already way ahead as more than available 100,000 applications optimized for the iPad that can be downloaded from the App Store, in addition to the more than 300,000 iPhone apps that can also work for the Apple tablet.

4. iPhone 5's Most Awaited Curtain Raising.

After Jobs decided to only talk about some cloud and updates to platforms for Apple devices at a developers' conference in June, there has been speculation that Apple won't be releasing the iPhone 5 this year. Apple has been unveiling a new iPhone every June for the past four years. Is it production problems, or is Apple still trying to add more features to the new iPhone?

3. A New HP Mobile Device (That Costs $99).

After Hewlett-Packard slashed the price of its HP TouchPad from $499 to $99, the HP tablet has suddenly become the hottest on the market. HP paid $1.2 billion for Palm Inc. in July last year, so it's unlikely the TouchPad is the only new webOS device in its pipeline. Since HP is killing its mobile devices business and is getting rid of the inventory, why not release other devices also at $99? It would not be surprising if HP makes an about-face, given that the webOS devices have now penetrated the market following the fire sales. Or it could wait until someone jail-breaks the HP TouchPad and gets it to run on Android.

2. Device That Shows the Glory That Was Nokia.

Finland's Nokia was previously the world's largest seller of smartphones. And including the $30 phones and other lower-end models, it is still the largest seller of mobile phones. After retiring the outdated Symbian and changing its mind with the Meego, Nokia is releasing its first batch of Windows-based phones. While Windows is the number one operating system for PCs, nobody -- except probably Bill Gates -- owns a smartphone running on Windows. With Microsoft still building apps for the Windows mobile ecosystem, it won't be at the IFA 2011 when Nokia will take back the crown from Apple and Samsung. Maybe next year.

1. Motorola Phones Designed by Geniuses at Google.

Google's search engine -- the world's most popular Web site -- is known for its classic, "less is more" design. Although Google has already developed the Android platform for mobile devices, it is interesting what aesthetics Google (minimalist like the Honeycomb?) will promote for future Motorola phones. After paying $12.5 billion for Motorola's mobile devices business, Google should needs more than the Droid to have a return on its investment.

Actually, Apple Will Be Fine Without Steve Jobs- From Businessinsider

In the wake of the terrible and sad news that Steve Jobs has resigned as CEO, Apple''s stock is down about 5% in aftermarket trading.

This is actually barely any drop at all.

And that suggests two things:

First, that the market was expecting this news (and was obviously wise to be expecting it, given Steve's medical leave and health condition).

Second, the market thinks Apple will do just fine without Steve.

And I think the market's right about the latter, at least over the next couple of years.

Steve Jobs' contribution to Apple cannot be overstated. Steve singlehandedly resurrected the company after it had been run into the ground by idiots and then left for dead. In about 15 short years, Steve led Apple from tech-industry roadkill to the most valuable company in the world.

Under Steve's leadership, Apple has produced products that are as beautiful and revolutionary as they are coveted and beloved. It is likely that the world will never again witness such an amazing and inspiring performance by a founder and chief executive officer of a company. So, losing Steve is obviously a tremendous blow to Apple.

That said, Steve's departure comes at a good time.

Thanks to Steve's vision, Apple has created two massive new product categories out of thin air: iPhone and iPad. These products did not exist 6 years ago--at any company--and now they are much bigger than Apple's legacy PC business.

These two products are also very early in their lifecycles in terms of global market penetration. This means that Apple should be able to drive enormous growth in both categories for years without a revolutionary new vision. The company just needs to stay one step ahead of the competition and maintain its obsessive focus on user experience and quality. And the latter now appears to be deeply baked into Apple's DNA.

Apple has also pulled off one of the hardest and most valuable tricks in technology: It has created a "closed system," or platform, that provides customers and developers with a major incentive to continue using Apple products.

steve jobs

Image: Dan Frommer, Business Insider

Designing closed systems is risky and difficult--it is easy to get outflanked by more ubiquitous platforms, the way Apple was outflanked by Microsoft in the 1990s.

But as Microsoft and others have demonstrated in the past--and as Apple is demonstrating now--once you own the dominant platform, your market power is extraordinary.

With an installed base of hundreds of millions of iPhone, iPad, and Mac users, and with so much of the world coalescing around the Apple platform, Apple is in an extremely strong competitive position.

Apple also has a management team that is used to running the company without Steve around. Tim Cook has already demonstrated that he can lead Apple day-to-day, and it is likely that Steve has been grooming him to take over as CEO. There will no doubt be power struggles in the wake of Steve's departure--there always are--but Apple is in much better shape to handle Steve's departure than it would have been two years ago.

tim cook

Tim Cook

In short, Apple is now a diversified, global company with three mega-hit products: iPhones, iPads, and Macs. iPhones and iPads are still early in their adoption curves, and Macs still have only a small slice of global PC market share. And the Apple platform--iOS and iTunes--ties all these products together, providing an incentive for customers to standardize around Apple.

So even if Apple never develops another new product category, it should have years of strong growth ahead of it.

And if, by now, enough of Steve Jobs has been transferred to the DNA of the company, even some of his "vision" can be maintained.

Eventually, if Apple is to continue to revolutionize the world the way it has over the last 15 years, the company will need another visionary. Perhaps Tim Cook can grow into that role. Or perhaps Apple has another quiet genius waiting in the wings.  But the company has time to find this person.

Again, it's impossible to overstate the value of Steve Jobs to Apple, and losing him is a huge blow to the company and community.

But Steve has done such an amazing job over the past 15 years that--for several years anyway--the company should be fine without him.

Analysts: 'iPad 3' display presents a challenge

Making tablets with a very-high-resolution display in large volumes is posing a challenge for Apple, according to analysts and an Asia-based report.

Two analysts contacted by CNET today said that they don't expect a new version of the iPad, dubbed the iPad 3, until next year because of high-resolution display supply constraints. And a report today from Digitimes made similar claims.

"We have heard that panel makers have had trouble manufacturing panels at efficient yields with the resolutions that Apple is requesting," said Richard Shim, an analyst at DisplaySearch. "There's even been discussion of lowering the resolution to get better yields."

A 9.7-inch tablet display with 2,048x1,536 resolution "has been under development for some time," Rhoda Alexander, an analyst at IHS iSuppli, said in reply to an e-mail query. Alexander said iSuppli has built its projections on a 2012 introduction of an iPad with this kind of very high-resolution display. Apple's iPad 2, announced back in March, has a 9.7-inch display with a resolution of 1,024x768.

Alexander's conclusion is that the iPad 3 will not appear before the first quarter of 2012 because the "higher performance panels present a number of challenges...the panel yields are likely to be substantially lower than that of the iPad 2's panel. It makes no sense for Apple to introduce a supply constrained product in its heaviest demand quarter (third quarter) of the year," Alexander said.

Alexander continued. "The backlight issue presents a substantial challenge as well, both in integrating the higher performance requirements within the form factor requirements and managing the additional power requirements."

The issues described above affect all tablet suppliers, forcing other makers to delay their plans for models with higher resolutions displays too, according to the report in Digitimes.

Earlier this month, Ashok Kumar, an analyst at Rodman & Renshaw, said that Apple had begun production on an incremental upgrade for the iPad 2--and iPad 2 "Premium" for professionals. This is expected to also have a high-resolution screen. It is still possible that Apple brings out a professional model this year because the necessary production volumes for a high-end version of the iPad 2 would be low, Kumar said today.

Comments:
Such a high resolution display does not seem possible at this time. Firstly, a GPU has to have a lot of power to run such a high resolution display. High power consumption on a mobile device isn't a good mix. Secondly, the cost of such a display would be incredibly high - Probably more than the cheapest iPad currently in production. And thirdly, I think that such a display would have been seen first in other devices, such as professional monitors, graphics/drawing tablets, or otherwise. Most computers/laptops top out at 1080p, and anyone who uses a resolution higher than that is an enthusiast, or a professional.

There are just too many reasons why I think an iPad with a retina display would not be possible within a year. 3 years, maybe, but not not now.

My opinion:

I don't think the 2,048x1,536 resolution is must-have or necessary, but if there's no technical revolution, there is no Apple. Jobs have the ability to make impossible possible. Let's wait and see.

iPad 3 release cycle: Getting it right

While its been a few months since the release of Apple’s second generation tablet, the idea of getting an iPad 3 release in 2011 seems crazy to say the least, but certain blogs are pushing this idea even if it means Apple would be launching a third iPad only half a year since the last one.

The iPhone will get iOS 5 in September with major improvements, but this software upgrade will also come to the current iPad selection and with it a complete revamp to what the popular tablet can do. So why would you want to upgrade so soon to the iPad 3? Fair enough there will be new buyers only too happy to get a newer iPad with features they been waiting for, but as soon as 6 months since the iPad 2 launch could be seen as disgusting to current owners.

Apple need to make sure they get the iPad release cycle right, failure to do so could anger current owners and push them towards another tablet brand. The annual refresh is perfect in our opinion, although we’re sure some buyers may think this is also too often. What could be possible is a minor update (aka iPad 2.5), which would bring a few needed features or price cut and at the same time not anger current iPad owners.

If the predictions by Daring Fireball’s John Gruber turn out to be true, then an iPad 3 could come towards the end of this year, and the rumors only gain momentum with apparent Apple employees stating the iPad 2 was a rush job. Other than the backlight bleeding, we could not be more happy with our iPad 2 purchase and would expect some sort of discount on the table if Apple did release a 3rd generation iPad just months after the last model, although the chances of this happening are almost the same as the crazy rumors themselves.

The iPad 3 will need a lot of improved specs for many iPad 2 owners to upgrade, this would include an A6 CPU, Retina display, a Thunderbolt port, SD card slot, improved cameras, and even NFC. Now for all that to come just half a year after iPad 2, you have more chance of winning the lottery. Share your views in the comments, and let us know what you think about the crazy rumors of iPad 3 releasing this year? What is the perfect release cycle for Apple products in your opinion?

Why iPhone 5 is being delayed by Apple: Are they bogged down by death grip

People are wondering as to why iPhone 5 is being delayed by Apple? They wonder if they are bogged down by death grip, the same problem that was faced by Apple in iPhone 4?

Every other person, whether iPhone fan or hater is perplexed by Apple’s unexplained behavior. Five months have passed when it should have been made a concrete announcement of iPhone 5 launch or in fact should have launched it. But there is neither any announcement or launch of it.

iPhone fans who have got accustomed to the periodic launch of iPhone variant every year and even in between are a little perplexed. When great Android smart phones are being launched with regular intervals and when Motorola and Samsung are launching different variants of their phones Apple is not even informing its fans as to what it intends to do and whether it will launch iPhone 5 this year or not.

Meanwhile there is a latest update about iPhone 5 proximity sensor. This sensor is not part of the current iPhone and is a latest add on for the forthcoming iPhone 5.

A tech website SW-Box.com has said that it is in possession of iPhone 5 proximity light sensor flex cable.

This is among the most tangible proofs of iPhone 5 and its development.

There are reports that Apple has delayed the iPhone 5 due to production problems.  There are many people who think that Apple has failed to solve the death grip problem in the phone and so is the delay. Death grip problem in iPhone 4 had cost Apple a big amount of money and had to give a cover to all the people who bought the iPhone 4 in the initial several months.

As a powerful iPhone to PC Transfer software, iPhone iBooks to PC Transfer can easily export iPhone iBooks (ePub, PDF, Audiobook), Music, Video, Podcast, TV Shows from iPhone to PC for backup and sharing. And it can also directly copy Music, movies, Podcast, TV Shows, etc. to iPhone without iTunes for playback anytime anywhere.

For Mac users, here is iPhone iBooks to Mac Transfer, backup iPhone iBooks (ePub, PDF, Audiobook), music, videos, movies, podcasts and TV shows to Mac and copy files from iPhone to iTunes. (iBooks purchased from iTunes Store and Photos/videos recorded by device can also be read and exported).

When Mac flirts with iPad: Testing Mac OS X Lion

Berlin - Experienced Macintosh users are already used to it - every two years Apple updates its Mac OS X operating system. But whereas the Mac OS X Snow Leopard in 2009 was really just a maintenance update without any spectacular changes, the company has taken a big step forward with Mac Lion.

Apple based their new system on some of the ideas from the successful iOS mobile system from the iPad. Similarly to the iPad, Mac users can now navigate with a series of gestures. The new operating system also adopted the iOS methods for easy saving of files and dealing with emails. The German Press Agency dpa took a look at the new operating system.

Apple took a new approach starting straight away with the installation of the system onto a Mac with the previous OS Snow Leopard. The new Lion system can be purchased for just under 24 euro (34 dollars) in the Mac Apple Store. Apple allows installation onto as many Macs as desired in one household. Those who do not have a broadband internet connection to comfortably download the 3.6 GB file can purchase a USB stick featuring the Lion OS from Apple for 59 euro.

A second major change is clear shortly after the installation as Apple has switched the scrolling direction. Until now, window contents are shifted up by pulling the scroll bar in a downward motion or pulling the scrolling wheel towards your hand. It is just the opposite with Lion - similar to the logic used with the iPad. But you get used to the new logical movements quickly. Traditionalists or users who also work with a Windows PC and do not want to continually re-think their actions between the two systems can change the settings in Lion to work in the usual manner.

Apple assumes that the mouse will play an ever decreasing role in navigating through documents and operating the entire system. Instead, users use multi-touch gestures and stroke with their fingers the MacBook's touch pad or the Magic Trackpad for desktop Macs. Many of the gestures are already known by iPad users and are very intuitive. Other gestures, such as the one to start a program selection, can be taught easily with a short video tutorial.

Owners of an iPad will recognise the new system function Launch iPad which helps quicken access to installed programs. Until now, Mac users could add a selection of their most-used applications into the Dock at the bottom of the screen and start it with just a click. The rest of the programs though had to be started in the Programs folder or called up using the Spotlight search function. With just a click of the LaunchPad symbol in the Dock, Lion fades out all operating programs and shows a screen-filling overview of all applications.

This display looks like the App overview on the iPad and can be sorted just like on the Apple tablet. Those who install a lot of programs on the Mac can easily lose their overview if they don't consequently clean house. Such users are better served by searching through Spotlight.

If you want to have a bird's eye perspective on all open windows and applications on the Mac then you can call up the Mission Control function. A row of miniature symbols appear along the top of the screen, showing the Dashboard (a page with smaller programs like a calculator or weather forecast), the desktop and all opened programs. Directly below that are all opened windows on the desktop, grouped together according to application.

The new Mac system is also based on the iPad's successful handling of files. Until now, Mac users (just like with Windows PCs) had to save items themselves and determine where they should be saved. Once software is customized to Lion, all changes to a document are automatically saved every five minutes without the user having to do anything. The system saves only the changes to the document instead of creating extra copies.

Similarly to the Time Machine back-up system, users can browse the various versions of a document and if necessary restore or recall them. If you would like to use a document as a template you can create a copy of the original with the function Duplicate.

With Lion, Apple is making a big jump away from the era of PowerPC chips. After switching to Intel's x86 processor, the developers built into the Mac OS X the Rosetta function which allows Intel computers to run programs which are actually written for PowerPC architecture. You will not find the Rosetta setting in Lion, so older PowerPC software cannot be started.

Therefore, users should check before installing Lion which programs will no longer run on their Mac. In most cases, it's enough just to update the application. For some, however, it may take longer for the manufacturers of the application software to customize their programs to the new system.

Even Macintosh users not worrying about old Rosetta programs should allow for a grace period of a couple of weeks. There are still a few errors in the brand new version of Mac OS X Lion. The Apple browser Safari was much slower during our test than before the upgrade - also in comparison to the competing browsers from Firefox and Chrome. Mac users, however, can expect Apple to work out these bugs in the near future with the first update.
